M & Co 5581 Silverplate Dish..

Post by IMAZTriBabe »

I bought this from a local swapmeet today, for $1.. I tried searching the hallmark, M & Co 5581 and haven't found anything. I checked the M marks library but I didn't find anything yet. Looking at the symbols, looks like an S, not sure of the second one, and a P... I am pretty sure this is silverplate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Lori

Hi

I've seen that mark attributed to Marples & Co of Sheffield, active at Napier St, Sheffield (1900-1907). Hard to be definite about silver plate marks as they weren't required to register marks with the Assay Office (as c.f. silversmiths)
