Any information or history on these would be much appreciated! Thanks! Also is there any reason the lion is stamped the opposite direction on the two pieces?

Hi,welcome to the forum.
Dutch (hall)marks, the year letter could be the Gothic D(?) for 1888 or Gothic M(?) for 1896, Dutch lion passant walking the right way, Minerva head. I believe the maker's mark is not showing, if possible please check/clean & show all the marks. For more information about Dutch marks see:

Best,
Oel.
