BAS and maybe a lion's head?
BAS and maybe a lion's head?
I have a set of silver butter knives with Bone handles. The hallmark is hard to make out. It looks like a head of some sort, then BAS in old English type letters. I have a good picture of the hallmark but am not sure how to attach it here.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
Letters look like ‚‚EPNS‚‚ to me (electroplated nickel silver).
But cannot tell for sure, letters are distorted.
There is full set;try to decipher the marks on other knives.

Thanks for Reply. There are 2 out of 6 knives in the set that have the hallmark and this one is more legible. It is definitely not EPNS because the old english letters are "BAS" and the icon on the left looks to be something other than a Letter. I appreciate the feedback.

For me the letters are most definitely EPNS. Compare the original mark with EPNS in a Gothic-style font (Cloister Black) and note how the tail of the P extends below the line leaving the rest of the loop above the line and with the bar across it making it possible to mistake it, when worn, for a B
