Dutch powder box ?

Hi,

I am studying marks of what, I suppose, is a box used by a hunter for powder.



I have very few documentation about Dutch silver, so any comments, correction or additionnal information is welcome !

What I see :
Two crosses in a crowned blazon: Amsterdam ? for which period ?
O ? under a crown: not identified
A lion passing towards the right over the figure 2 in a hexagon: 2nd title of the Netherlands (833,33/1000) (for which period ?)
O in a circle: Netherlands, on 1848 ? (not sure at all about the year)

I think we have Dutch pseudo marks here.
Probably late 19th century.

Yes, indeed Dutch pseudo marks. The only Dutch hallmark is the lion passant above 2 for 833/000 fineness used 1814-1953. The other marks are all Dutch pseudo marks. Pseudo Amsterdam town mark, O pseudo year letter, crowned I imitation of a Frisian year letter.
For Dutch (hall)marks see: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32028. Check your box for other little marks ; proper year letter and assay office mark or Minerva head with a regional assay office letter in its helmet, and a Dutch maker's mark. Those marks could be spread over the box. Depending on the size it could be a tea caddy made around the turn of the 19th century.

Regarding size of the object : about 3,4 cm x 3,2 cm x 2,2 cm

What I see notably :
a minerva head with the letter M : Schoonhoven, 1814-1905 (I am not 100% sure which minerva head it is, since I understood that there is two different heads : 1814-1905 and 1906 to present)


the figure 3 or the letter z in an oval ? : unidentified mark (could it be the silversmith ?)

Any comments on these two marks ?

Hello again,
It`s too small even for a snuffbox. Possibly Lodderein (from "l'eau de reine", scented water on sponge placed in the box).
Equivalent to English vinaigrette.
Peter will comment the marks.

AG2012 is right, it is a lodderein box, made in Schoonhoven. Next to the assay office mark or Minerva head, used 1814-1905 I see two more pseudo marks One is the crowned O (imitation of a duty mark). The year letter is the script Z for 1884. No maker's mark found but Hooijkaas springs to mind.

I look once more in order to find other marks, but I could not see any more marks.
But I understand that the Hooijkaas firm was quite important in the city (thanks for the link), so that could indeed be a work from them.
