Small question

Hello,

im looking for info about a specific French 18th century hallmark.





Its the crowned P which is turned left. I cannot find anything about it.

Also, the makers mark is not yet identified. It reads R P with a bird in between, a chicken or parrot...

I only have my mobile Phone at hand, since my camera broke so sorry for the bad picture.

I just researched here on the forum and found out its by Rene Pierre Ferrier.
Im really happy with this piece, i found it yesterday on the grand fleamarket in Lille (north France).





Now would just like to know about the crowned P.

Hi,
Year letter ``crowned q`` for 1779/80.
The assayer should be Jean Baptiste Fouache.
The idea about missing glass bottles by the same maker..

Indeed Fouache, as stated i do not have the camera now, but it is marked with the small left facing head of a monkey or dog, that i found representing Fouache!

You made a nice find in Lille!

Just to clarify, Fouache was not an assayer, but a tax collector (fermier général). His mark is the crowned A, and his office also stamped the discharge marks of the steer head and the monkey head, showing tax had been paid. I assume each discharge mark is on a different part of the object.

The assayer's mark (jurande or maison commune) is the crowned Q.

The marks are on all 3 pieces, except for the steerhead, its only on the base of the piece.

Then everything is as it should be. The steer head is a discharge mark for heavier objects, and the monkey head for lighter objects. In your case, the base is heavier, and the cruet holders are lighter.
