Re: mystery inscription
thanks Trev, Henry Felix Lister Hartmann : his “Lister” name is the maiden name of Lewis Vernon Harcourt’s mother, and the engraving says “godfather.” This is could be a christening vessel - to pour a couple drops of holy water on the baby’s head
Re: mystery inscription
To me, it looks, somewhat oddly, more like a wine taster.
Are there any marks on it?

Re: mystery inscription
It looks to me like a "porringer." They were often given as Christening gifts.

Re: mystery inscription
and to me it looks like a waste of space as there are NO images. trevor - i believe any posts that do not contain or that drop the images should be banished to a dark corner of the site. considering that this forum is meant to educate and expand our knowledge, it seems rude for people to ignore the basic requirements, ie photos. if one posts here asking for help it's the least that can be done.

Six inches of snow and still recieving images on Pacific slope. I find missing images are most likely temporary carrier issues. Sometimes backing out and getting closer to the signal for the re-upload will clear it up. [We have had past permanent losses related to hosting site changes that are beyond anyone's control. Those images only get restored with an awful lot of work that may require new photos. Many old entries can only be enhanced by those willing to contribute new samples that match the original descriptions. Hint, hint everybody.]
