Can anyone identify this object, please?

Post by LindaGoesFishing »

Hello all, I'm new here and you all seem to be pretty knowledgeable about objects of silver; I hope someone can help me identify this silver object. There are no markings on it, no hallmarks, what so ever. It tests silver. It is 4.5" tall. The bottom diameter is an inch and a quarter. The indented section in the middle seems to be made for the hand. It is about an inch in diameter at the narrowest part. There is decorative chasing on the top part and repousse. The top segment has a seam beneath it, but the top segment does not come off. It is not a lid and it has a mushroom look to it. It weighs about 70 grams, not super light, and it is hollow inside. It is in very fine condition and doesn't seem to have been used, whatever it is... Any help is really appreciated, thanks! ...trying to see how to add a photo... maybe I have to upload it separately...

Could it be a stopper for some very large jug or pitcher?
