help with a makers mark - HAS PICTURES NOW

Post by firekidd »

I will try an get a picture later, but here is what I have
A gold washed (?) spoon with a impression on the bowl of a roman head in a circle on one side and the other side is a diamond imprint (which did not impress all the way) the top reads MASSATF and below this it looks like a shield with an M inside.

Again I will try to get pictures up later.

Thank you
Dotti

Is it marked "sterling", can you tell us why you think it is American?

Hello, there was a French maker P. Massat, who used his full name, a lyre plus a dot on each side of the lyre, all in a lozenge. Was out of business before 1970. As to the other letters following here the Massat - I cannot see them to clearly. Could be Fs. (Fils, French for sons) ?? Maybe someone else knows more. Best wishes, Bahner
