Really American? Or British colonial? Or ...?
Really American? Or British colonial? Or ...?
I bought this nice pair of tablespoons in a version of Kings Pattern, single-struck and heavy gauge. The marks are attributed in various places to Maltby Pelletreau, NY, c. 1820s. But neither the marks nor the spoons as a whole feel American to me. They're heavier gauge than one would expect in coin silver spoons, and the pseudo-hallmarks don't look like NYC pseudo-hallmarks. In fact, the marks look a lot like some China Trade silver marks, especially the "C" date letter. The spoons overall seem more likely to be China Trade or British colonial. Informed opinions?

No photos left, but does the description of the psuedos sound familiar (Kings on hourglass, Head mark, Right Facing Lion, and Letter mark). Was thought to be New York. Here: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=43662&p=124985&hil ... on#p124985
Are there any examples of right facing lions in Chinese-export psuedo-marks?
