Tiny Silver Patch Box maker

Post by joho »

Hi All. I am trying to find out more about this unusual tiny silver patch box. It is circular in form and has faceted sides and a pull of cover. Attached to the cover, on a small spindle is a circular plaque with a hole drilled near the edge. The plaque can be turned so that it alignes with a hole in the cover, presumably to allow a small patch to be released from the box. The plaque is in the form of an engraved tudor rose. The box is very small (1.7cm in diameter and just 1cm high) so may have belonged to a child. It is stamped with a makers mark TW both on the inside base of the box and inside the cover. I have considered Thomas Wilmore as the maker, but I think this box may predate him. Any information would be much appreciated.
