PLATA 925 DEL PILAR PERU plus (?) RI.8357

Post by Traintime »

Could only conclude the beginning of that alpha-numeric code as we have a prior inquest that failed to add images. The numbers slightly differ for another type object, so these could be stock/item codes all of which raises the question of whether we are dealing with importer/retailer designations or just the manufacturing firm's own identifiers? Del Pilar seems to be all we have to run with. And are we missing a glass liner or might it just be a rolled-napkin holder?

Warning, not responsible for any dizziness caused by staring at these images:

Here was the earlier posting that had no images but a goid description: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=38872&p=106571&hil ... ar#p106571
After comparing stuff...RI# marks exist beyond Del Pilar (search San Agustin entry for another). Within Del Pilar, they do change but one like RI 8357 is on a number of items, perhaps all linked as a common theme design pattern. The words "Industria Peruana" do not seem to be anyone in particular (such as Carlos Mario Camusso), but may simply mean the item is a Peruvian manufactured object. In fact, there was a monthly rag called Industria Peruana put out by the manufacturers association (my ref. was in 1973). So, "Industria Peruana Plata 925 Del Pilar" can't tell us that two objects are linked to a specific maker who may be using part of those words. And frankly, we don't know exactly why "of the pillar" is on anything as this point or how it relates to an actual maker identity beyond being some form of trademarking. But most of the marked items appear to be quality wares. And I was able to copy a very mmmmodernized Del Pilar (DP boxed) manufacturer marking off of a flatware listing if we need it.

And yes, this one could possibly be a poorly struck RI 8857.
