I'm thinking of purchasing this tea set that's marketed as sterling. Each piece has the word "STERLING" stamped on the bottom, but there is no maker's mark. It's just really weird, because why would the maker not put their mark on something that's this nice? So this definitely gives me pause. The last thing I want is to buy something that's been tampered with by some unscrupulous person. Not saying that it's the seller, because they may not know, either, if that's the case. So I've come again to the experts on this forum. What sayest thou? Is it legit?
I have posted some photos below. Thank you in advance.
Hi,
It is not uncommon to see only STERLING mark. Of course, many countries can be excluded (Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden etc).
Every piece should be tested:
1. Acid test after deep filing to expose base metal.
2. Electronic testing (there is equipment to perorm the test).
