Hi, folk! Been away for a while, not really collecting much anymore, in fact getting closer to de-accession phase, alas. However, could not pass up this one, a big Hanoverian shell bowl soup ladle by Elizabeth Oldfield (14 1/8 inches long, 190 grams). Date mark is so squashed it is hard to decipher, maybe 1753 given the strong central vertical stroke (seller indicated 1746, probably due to the same reasoning, but that is too early for Oldfield). I'd guess that this piece marks one end of the size scale for this dedicated spoon maker. I think I have a couple of salt dip spoons by her marking the other end, but would have to go look for them. Anyway, for those who like large flatware, enjoy (sorry about the low quality cell phone pics, but they are so convenient!).
