3 leaf clover overstriking mark London 1902 Arts and Crafts

Post by 42jbb »

I have come across a mark over striking the makers mark on an arts an crafts enamel goblet assayed in London in 1902.

The overstriking mark is a 3 leaf clover. I was wondering if anyone could please enlighten me as to who this represents?

Much Appreciated.

Hi,

Fortunately I can see the images, which is always hit and miss when using Google Images.

To me, rather than an overstruck maker's/retailer's mark, this looks like an attempt to obscure the actual maker's mark, not an uncommon action when the retailer wants to keep the origin of the piece unknown. Again, to me, it looks like just three strikes of a circular punch.

Others may see it differently.

Hi 42jbb,

Can you make out any of letters on the original punch mark?
