Hanoverian Spoons Identification

Post by silverly »

These are a couple of small spoons with marks that look British. They look to me like quite a challenge to identify, but wonders do happen on this site all the time.

Almost certainly a London mark. The notch visible near the head of the lion passant suggests the hallmark period 1739 (d) to 1755 (u) and the maker's mark I·T would then be James Tookey who registered this mark in 1750. We can therefore give a date of 1750 to 1755 for the spoons but without 100% certainty.

Thank you Phil. Turns out that just as I had feared, I had already asked this question and of course received the same answer. Maybe my eyes were better the first time because then I even recognized the letters of the maker’s mark.
Thanks again. They are beautiful little spoons.
