I hope someone can identify this lion hallmark observed on several gold crosses found in the Savoy region of France. Presumably Italian, but I'd love to know more. Thanks !

Hi, see good old Marc Rosenberg, Der Goldschmiede Merkzeichen IV. Band/Ausland und Byzanz, Berlin 1928
Lyon;
# 6201 Ein Löwenkopf nach links, mit wechselnder Jahreszahl /A lion head to the left, with a varying year letter. (The town mark of Lyon, combined year letter).
#6209 Gold- und kleine Silberarbeiten/ Gold and small silver work 1780-1789.
According Jan Divis's book; Gold stempel Aus aller Welt # 882 Lyon(F), 1780-1791, décharge; gold 916/1000; small silver 843/000
The maker's mark I.M is unknown to me.
Peter.

Re: Lion hallmark on gold cross
Hello,
Thanks for that, I'll have another look at Lyon. When I last looked a few years ago, the form of the lion didn't seem to correspond.
