Novice question trying to identify something.

Another dumb question from a mere novice. At a Goodwill store I bought two of what I thought were probably silverplated stemmed goblets. They polished up beautifully with absolutely no plate loss, scratches or anything. On the bottom is the term EM*ESS, the line under that has an unidentifiable mark, followed by STG B. The third line shows a circle with a line drawn vertically through it, and the fourth line says SET NO 183. What, if anything does all this mean? Thanks for any help.
