Post by mmrader »

I have a G. Wostenholm & Son carving set with the the Sheffield sterling marks for 1923 and a maker's mark of "JY", but have been unable to locate a name for "JY". ANy help would be greatly appreciated!

Josiah Young worked 1910 - 1922. Perhaps a piece assayed the next year?

Thank you Waylander...that sounds like a good possibility! Do you have any more information on Josiah Young, or a reference/resource I could look into? So far, I haven't found anything on the name, but perhaps I'm not looking in the right places???

Thank you again, and I would certainly welcome suggestions from other readers!

Not much apart from what I have already said. His mark was attributed from a knife handle, but there is also talk that JY may have been the mark of Joseph Yardley.
