Previously I posted to ask questions to identify hallmark and to know what do the pictorial marks mean on the vintage fork of John Gilbert, Birmingham. Im sorry for repeated questions.
I hope to ask last quetion abot the handle with the vintage fork. Could anyone tell me what kind of material is this handle? I suppose this handle was made from ivory, but I am afraid this was made from other material, for example, celluloid.
what kind of material is the handle with vintage fork
Re: what kind of material is the handle with vintage fork
Sorry, vintage knife.
Re: what kind of material is the handle with vintage fork
Since the handle is disassembled it is easy to observe its cross section.
If it is elephant ivory you will be able to see the Schreger lines, (google it) possibly polishing the section if necessary.
If it is celluloid, lightly wetting your fingertip with acetone and touching the handle will feel it sticky.
