Help with this script hallmark

Post by Pepperonicini »

I got this bowl today. It is engraved for 1803. My best guess is that this is an early marking of Thomas Coit, can anyone confirm this? I cannot find any images of this exact hallmark anywhere, but I can find similar of his.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;:::: Is the date engraved in the "pin-prick" pointillism style? :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

:::::: This form of bowl has been noted in Scandanavia in the decades surrounding 1803 and the double-hallmark has been seen in Provincial Denmark silversmiths around this time as well, the cursive letters are similar to an American maker, but It may not be an American maker, a similar issue happened to me once, it was a coincidence of the cursive writing. ::::::

Yes it is, it looks like it was done with an engraving machine that was so popular in the midcentury. Lots of little dots.

[ Peter Petersen Mollerup from the city Viborg in Denmark (Bøje, Køberstaederne, p. 204) ]

::::::: It's a similar style to the cursive writing in your hallmark & the expert posted the page number from a book which may help you figure out who your silversmith is, it seems to be from Denmark as well is my best guess at this point in time ::::::
