I need help, can someone help me understand the hallmarks?

Post by Nata37 »

Hello, I need help, can someone help me understand the hallmarks:
R Hamer is, as I understand it, Steven Tjittes Reitsma (1814 to 1857),
but I am confused by the letter S in this spelling, if I correctly identified it, it is 1902, but he worked until 1857.
Or did I make a mistake? Maybe someone knows a master with such a stamp?
In that case, when was this spoon made?

Hi Nata,

Silver cream spoon in the Dutch revival style (Dutch antique style), indeed Gothic year letter S for 1902. The maker's mark R under silversmith's hamer is for Gebr. (Brothers) Steven & Hendrik Reitsma, registered in the city of Sneek 1892-1948. Revival style which started around 1890 and characteristic for the brothers S. & H. Reitsma. The mark's you show in your images is of their father Tjitte Stevens Reitsma.
Lion rampant 1st standard silver 934/1000, with export key (mark to indicate 2/3 duty restitution upon export valid 1853 till 1953)
