Honor W. A. Davis With Party On His 50th Anniversary With Firm

In honor of Willard A. Davis’ 50th anniversary with the firm, a surprise party was held on Wednesday afternoon, February 11th, at the S. & B. Lederer Co., manufacturing jewelers of Providence, R. I.

Mr. Davis started as an errand boy in 1898 and has been factory superintendent for many years. To commemorate this memorable occasion, Irving Lederer presented Mr. Davis with a gold watch and employees presented Mr. Davis with a sum of money. Mrs. Davis was given a brooch in honor of the anniversary.

United States Marshal McCabe served a subpoena Monday on S. & B. Lederer in a patent litigation in which Warren Webster, Camden, N. J., is complainant. The case is in the United States Circuit Court.

S. & B. Lederer have obtained a judgment for $198.56 against Joseph Ullrich and Elias Stein, formerly composing Ullrich & Stein, 19g John St., New York.

S. & B. Lederer are about to open a large and commodious office in Chicago, wherein G. Rosenberg, J. Solinger and M. J. Jacoby will remain during the World's Columbian Exposition. The concern have leased and fitted up a flat on Oak St. for the accommodation of their representatives and their families during their stay in the Garden City.

Walter Ruge sued S. & B. Lederer last week for $5,000 damages for injuries received in an elevator accident in the defendants’ factory March 8, 1897, whereby the plaintiff sustained a fracture of the collar bone. The jury brought in a verdict Thursday night, awarding Ruge $175.

H. Lederer & Bro. and S. & B. Lederer filed an equity bill in the Appellate Court Thursday, in which they seek an accounting from Louis K. Potter, who acted as assignee of Ronkus & Habib, this city. The Lederers have claims against the insolvent estate and affirm that no dividend has been paid them by the assignee.

S. Woodbury Dodge, superintendent for the S. & B. Lederer Co., is confined to his bed by a serious attack of pleuro-pneumonia.

PROVIDENCE

S. & B. Lederer are preparing plans for a new building to be erected upon the property recently acquired by them on Fountain St., wherein they will manufacture silver goods.

Friends of George H. Thurber, the watchman who was arrested a few days ago for stealing from S. & B. Lederer and sentenced to pay a fine of $20 and costs, visited the jail last Tuesday and paid the amount due. Thurber was immediately rearrested charged with stealing jewelry, etc. He was adjudged probably guilty, and held in the sum of $300 for appearance before the higher court.

Gus Rodenberg, of S. & B. Lederer, is in Cincinnati again, looking none the worse for his late accident in Cleveland, except that he carries a cane.
