This item is four inches (10.16 cm) long.
Ladies used this in the 19th century.

Is it maybe something to pin to a dress and hold on to the train?

Hello Byran & Doos.

This is hooked over the lady's waistband or belt.
It's called a "Spool knave" or sometimes a "Reel holder".
The ball of thread fitted over the horizontal bar.

Sorry Doos, no prizes here.
You were close enough for me to get the win though.

Speaking of gameshows, had some news here in my town last wednesday.
Have you ever heard of the American TV show "The Price Is Right" ?
The Host is Bob Barker and he taped his last show wednesday. He's retiring after many years.
A lady from my town won their farewell episode. Her winnings included a 2007 Corvette coupe, a 2007 Cadillac XLR convertable and a 7 day trip to the Greek Islands and Turkey.

Hi,

Yes that show has run here for several years aswell.
As a small side question: there was a show on the BBC about ± 10 years ago where there was a celebrity panel whom were given a mystery object that they needed to describe.
Does anyone recall what that show was named?
