Please Help Identify Silver Mark and name of ring

Post by imadecker »

Hello! I am a stay at home mom of a 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy. My grandmother recently passed away and I was going through her jewelry when I found this gorgeous ring which has a hinged opening where the stone opens and reveals a tiny "box". I heard it was for poison? but I am not sure why my grandmtoher would have something like that? Also I believe the Hallmark dates this ring to the 1960s-1970s. The simple eagle mark has a "2" inside. I cannot make out much other than MEXICO and STERLING. maybe the initials SBA? Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am having a hard time getting my image to show please let me know if it did not come through thanks!

Hi Imadecker-

I also doubt your grandmother had a poison ring. The real reason for the hinged opening was for aromatics, so it is a "scent ring" when ladies would come upon foul odors they would open it and place it next to thier nose. As for "SBA" dont know. But did you check out this part of the site to explain the Eagle?
