Crown and scale of of a clock

Post by coco »

Hi,
ich have an old clock with a hallmark or silver hallmark.

There are a crown and something like a scale.

Further there stands 0,585 .

Is there somebody who can help me to find the company or the country, which porduced this clock?

0.585 could suggest 14K gold, but that's pure speculation...

Hi Coco,

0,585 is stamped normally found on pieces made in or for Germany,
it stands for " a bit more than 14 carat " as 14 carat are exactly
583,3/1000 gold.

To be honest , carat is something we are not using for metal.
Over here it's the weight for stones. Diamonds and so on ;-).

we may use carat for the weight of gemstones

but
we use karat for gold, and 585, or .585, denotes 14 karat gold.
Before you proceed you might want to get a jeweller to test the metal - perhaps it really is (white) gold.
