Unknown Hallmarks

Post by carlos65 »

This is my second time posting. Everyone was so very helpful I thought I would have a go at it again. I found this knife and I am trying to identify it. Any clues to put me on the right path?

Hello.
I believe those are American coin silver marks.
Charles C. Shaver, Utica, New York.
Worked from about 1854 to at least 1884. Died in 1900.

Charles Shaver made two variants of this pattern, which I call "COTTAGE ROSETTE." The only variation is in the circle halfway down the handle.

Shaver used several different manufacturing marks. Both of my examples carry his "C.C.S." mark, and one includes his "C.C. Shaver" backstamp, which I'm assuming is his retail mark.
